You should have your vacuum cleaner serviced at least every two years. After a lot of use your roller will buildup with debris. As the roller rotates, items such as hair, thread and carpet fibers will clog the roller bearings. If not cleaned out on a regular basis your roller will start slowing down causing premature wear on the bearings and belt. If your vacuum uses a "flat belt" change it every 6 months. These belts stretch to the point of being unable to turn the roller at the proper speed.
